A recent graduate of the music program at Virginia Tech, Briggs earned his Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude, focusing on cello performance and music technology. During his senior year, he was awarded the Ed Pittard Memorial Scholarship and a solo concerto performance of the Haydn D Major Cello Concerto with the VT Philharmonic. Collaborations include serving as the assistant music director for the Sap of Life theater workshop in spring 2019, working directly with composer David Shire and lyricist Richard Maltby Jr, as well as producing the audio for the VT Chamber Singers Spring 2021 Virtual Showcase. He also assisted with a study researching the use of 5G wireless communication technologies to facilitate real-time, distanced musical rehearsals with ICAT.
As a student, Briggs was always teaching in some way. As president of the Virginia Tech ASTA chapter and a student teacher for String Project, he has been teaching in both group and individual settings throughout his college career. Briggs also filled in as one of the leading teachers for the String Sinfonia class during the Fall 2019 semester, including teaching at the Belle Heth Elementary VTSP outreach program. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he continued teaching individual lessons online through the String Project over Zoom and FlipGrid.
He currently works for the music studio at Virginia Tech as an audio engineer, and as a head teacher for the VT String Project.
